A New Design for Chessell!
Over the winter, we have been busy making stocks of our ever-popular Strawberry pottery. Each piece is handmade, finished and decorated in our studio here (well actually, decorated by the café stove in the depths of winter, as the studio is like a walk-in freezer!)
During this time we were chatting about and planning a new design to add to the range. We talked around lots of options, but settled on a seaside theme. The next stage was to do some picture research and come back with some simple images to consider turning into sponges.
We settled on a simple yacht design which, along with a lighthouse and some seagulls we hoped to combine into something pleasing! Rachel used her skills to transform these images into sponges we could use to print with.
Next was the fun part! A happy morning spent with blank pottery, new sponges and paint in various shades of blue. After much experimenting and sanding off (those who have painted with us will know how that goes) we fixed on a design we were happy with, and were ready to glaze and fire the test pieces. The boat design was already being admired by the team here, and little sneak peek on Facebook produced a really positive response – all good signs!
Once the tests were fired – it was time to make up some stock for the shop, ready for opening weekend. A feature display on our counter officially launched ‘Little Boats’ to the public – we will see how it sails!
