4th Annual Strawberry Fair Success!

Chessell Pottery’s 4th annual Strawberry Fair, on Sunday 26th June, was a huge success, attracting a wide range of visitors, including holiday makers, local families and cycling groups, giving the fair a lovely ‘community village fete’ feeling.
With the rain holding off and the sun making an appearance, the talents of Juke Box Jazz and the Bunker Girls got everyone into the spirit of the fair, with customers able to wander at their leisure between the gardens, shop and studio.
The Strawberry Fair comes at the start of the strawberry season and is a chance to prepare some of the many strawberries that are required for Chessell’s homemade strawberry jam. As always, the visitors were the real stars of the show, managing to hull an amazing ¼ ton of strawberries for jam-making!
Chessell is well known for its Cream Teas and the Fair was the perfect opportunity to serve a variety of scones from traditional to cherry and almond, as well as decadent champagne and strawberry. The kitchens provided a constant stream of freshly baked scones, still warm out of the oven…over 800 in all were eaten that day!
The unmistakable Wightwood Pizza van arrived at lunchtime, producing unique wood-fired pizzas all afternoon, which were accompanied by a delicious array of strawberry-themed foods provided by Chessell. Tasty homemade salads with strawberry salsa were the perfect additions to the pizzas, and visitors were spoilt for choice with the sweet treats on offer. As well as the cream teas, there were mouth-watering strawberries dipped in chocolate, Eton Mess or strawberries and cream to choose from, all washed down with a Strawberry Bellini, or jar of Pimms, perfect for a June afternoon!
With plenty to keep everyone busy; face-painting, jam pot painting in the studio, guessing the number of strawberries in the Chessell Teapot, and Garden Games which raised a fantastic £250 in aid of the climbing wall fund at West Wight Sports and Community Centre, the Chessell Strawberry Fair, once again, was a delightful way to spend a Sunday!
