The Chessell Café serves a range of tasty light lunches, much of which is prepared from locally sourced ingredients – we are licensed too, so you can enjoy a glass of wine, or real local Ale with your meal.
The Café at Chessell is also home to our award winning ‘Island Cream Tea’ – home baked scones freshly baked each day with clotted cream and our own delicious strawberry jam, all served on hand-made Chessell strawberry pottery. As you arrive you will see a wonderful array of homemade cakes, meringues and treats displayed on a big farmhouse table, and smell delicious espresso coffee being made from freshly ground beans.
We are a bit spoilt on the Island as we have so many lovely, local food producers – our menu features plenty of them – meats and eggs from Brownrigg Farm and very local to us Mottistone Farm Shop, award winning Island cheeses from the Island Cheese Company, strawberries and other seasonal produce from Ben Brown plus Isle of Wight tomatoes from the Tomato Stall. All our cakes are freshly baked in our own kitchen by Bridget Wells, Chef and Café Manager, and her team.
We make our own homemade soup, pasta and salads, home baked pastries and tarts, plus an amazing array of cakes, slices and of course a whole range of our famous, freshly baked scones. Sharon our chief scone baker, is always trying new flavours to add to the range. We spend the winter making as many homemade jams and chutneys as possible for use in our café and also for visitors to buy from our Gift Barn. Would you believe we made a tonne of strawberry jam last year?!
Gluten, dairy and egg free treats (GF, DF and EF are marked on our Menus) are also available, even an entirely gluten free Afternoon Tea! Please ask when you book.
